PREFACE

Business Statistics has been so designed as to familiarise a beginner with the basic concepts of quantitative techniques. It has been written to serve as the textbook for BBA, 1st semester students of panjab University.

The textbook departs from the heavy mathematical orientation generally experienced in the treatment of the subject matter. The everage  student who has an adequate knowledge of arithmetic and high school algebra has sufficient backgrounds required for the study of these techniques. 

We have tried to give as many illustrations as possible in order to make the students understand various typical problems. A set of graded exercises (with answers ) concludes each chapter to provide an opportunity for the keen student to reinforce what he learns, to test his progress and to and to increase his confidence. We claim no originality for the matter presented in the text, however, the method of presentation and the arrangements of the subject matter is our own, which reflects an approach to the exposition of quantitative techniques for business and highlights clarity and understandability  based on a long teaching experience of B com m. A'' M. Com,, B.B.A  and M.B. A., Classes. We feel we have removed the need for supplementary texts or reading which should be a matter of joy for teachers as well as students.
